Antonio Guterres, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, will discuss the humanitarian emergency generated by the conflict in Libya. With more than 500,000 people displaced by the fighting, it is one of the most pressing displacement situations in the world, according to Guterres. The High Commissioner will also discuss the displacement caused by the recent fighting in Ivory Coast.
Guterres has been the 10th UN High Commissioner for Refugees since 2005. A former Portuguese prime minister from 1995 to 2002, Guterres was reelected last year by the General Assembly to a second five-year term. As High Commissioner, Guterres heads one of the world's foremost humanitarian organizations.
