National Payroll Week Celebrates Payroll Professionals, Highlights Financial Education
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting on Labor Day, America's employees will celebrate payday and the payroll professionals who pay them. Observed from September 7-11, National Payroll Week recognizes the contributions of America's 156 million workers and the payroll professionals who ensure they're paid accurately and on-time, every time.
"Payroll professionals are responsible for fulfilling every employee's favorite benefit–their paycheck," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association. "Payroll professionals are also responsible for collecting nearly 68% of the U.S. Treasury's annual revenue. During NPW, we thank payroll professionals for their hard work and the accuracy and timeliness our nation depends on."
During National Payroll Week, more than 21,000 APA members strive to educate the public about their paychecks and payroll-related benefits. This effort helps employees stretch their paychecks. The NPW website features tips to reduce your taxes and save up to 35% on everyday expenses, like daycare and medical costs. APA volunteers also teach paycheck basics to teens in their communities during Money Matters National Education Day on September 10.
"Knowledge is a powerful thing," said Maddux. "For workers young and old, a strong understanding of how they're paid and how to make withholding adjustments can have an immediate impact, reducing tax burden and giving them a boost on their next paycheck and beyond."
National Payroll Week also features the popular "Getting Paid In America" online survey, which asks respondents to weigh in on topics that impact their paychecks. A grand prize winner will receive a free paycheck and a trip to Las Vegas after the survey ends on September 11.
