National Payroll Week Celebrates Payroll Industry and Educates Workers on Paycheck
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This Labor Day week, America's employees will celebrate payday and the payroll professionals who pay them. National Payroll Week, September 5-9, recognizes the contributions of America's 150 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who ensure they're paid accurately and on-time, every time.
"Payroll professionals are responsible for collecting nearly 67% of the U.S. Treasury's annual revenue. That money funds critical programs, such as Social Security and Medicare," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association (APA). "During National Payroll Week, we thank payroll professionals for their hard work and recognize how they contribute to the continued success of our nation and its workforce."
During National Payroll Week, more than 21,000 APA members will educate the public about their paychecks and payroll-related benefits. APA members will hold events at their workplaces and within their communities. The public will be encouraged to maximize the power of their paycheck, by using direct deposit and adjusting their Form W-4.
The APA encourages workers to "Be Like Kelly," a fun character who discovers various methods to get the most out our her paycheck. The video series can be viewed on the American Payroll Association's YouTube channel.
During National Payroll Week, the American Payroll Association sponsors its "Getting Paid In America" online survey. The survey asks respondents to weigh in on topics like direct deposit and mobile banking. One lucky survey respondent will win a grand prize of a free paycheck and a trip for two to Las Vegas. The annual survey, which ends on September 9, allows the APA to monitor employee views towards evolving payment trends and legislation.
