National Parkinson Foundation Enlists MWW For National Awareness Campaign
Non-Profit Dedicated to Parkinson's Research, Education and Expert Care Looks To MWW for Story-Driven Program in Support of Caregivers
CHICAGO, Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MWW (www.mww.com), one of the top-five global independent public relations and marketing firms, today announced that it has been retained by the National Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinson.org) to engage an awareness campaign to support caregivers of those suffering from Parkinson's disease. As part of the campaign, MWW has produced a public service announcement featuring U.S. Senator Cory Booker with a message on early warning signs of Parkinson's disease and the resources available to caregivers.
"The National Parkinson Foundation is a leader in improving the quality of care for people living with Parkinson's disease, including providing support and resources to caregivers," said John Digles, MWW executive vice president, Chicago office GM and leader of the firm's global Health and Wellness practice. "Our program will tell the story of caregivers nationally and in key U.S. markets through media, social media and a new PSA. We are honored to support NPF's mission to support caregivers and to help beat Parkinson's."
Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's, affecting about one million people in the United States and an estimated four million worldwide. There are a wide range of symptoms, including a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor and lack of facial expression), depression, anxiety and loss of energy. There is currently no cure.
Through ongoing research, education and outreach, the National Parkinson Foundation works to improve the lives of people with Parkinson's disease and assist patients and families in finding the best care possible. NPF has created a global network serving the needs of the Parkinson's community including 40 "Centers of Excellence" at top medical centers and U.S. chapters and support groups serving people with Parkinson's and their families.
"In our mission to build awareness of Parkinson's disease and role of caregivers, the National Parkinson Foundation wanted an agency with knowledge of the health space and with proven ability to tell an engaging story," said Joyce Oberdorf, president and CEO of the National Parkinson Foundation. "Anyone, at any age, can be called to serve as a caregiver to a loved one affected by Parkinson's disease. Awareness of support, community and resources is essential for this level of care. MWW's storytelling expertise, extensive media relationships and proven ability to communicate health topics set them apart for this assignment."
MWW's team for the National Parkinson Foundation includes trained specialists in health and wellness communications and media relations. The National Parkinson Foundation account will be based in MWW's Chicago office led by Mr. Digles, who is also an award-winning filmmaker with a filmography that includes the Sundance Film Festival.
