National Night Out Parties Strengthen Ties Between Residents and Wilton Manors Police Department
WILTON MANORS, Fla., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wilton Manors Police Department has many important tools at its disposal, but one of the most vital is you. But you can't help prevent and reduce crime unless you "know your neighbor and your neighborhood."
On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., hot dogs, hamburgers, noodle salad, lemonade and all manner of summertime staples will be served in and in front of homes across the city. It's all good fun and done in the hopes that it will bring neighbors together for something more – to help residents get to know their neighbors and the police department that serves and protects them.
"National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten awareness of crime prevention techniques and drug awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen police and community partnership; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized, aware, and fighting back," said Wilton Manors Police Chief Paul O'Connell.
Members of the Wilton Manors Police Department will be traveling to all the participating neighborhoods and handing out free finger lights, fans, balloons, mini basketballs and other giveaways. "The Wilton Manors Police department has always had a strong bond with the residents of Wilton Manors and you can expect to see your police department out in full force. If our citizens and police officers continue to work together, we can rid our community of drugs and crime," said O'Connell.
