National Medical Association Installs 111th President at Orlando Convention
SILVER SPRING, Md., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Delivering his inaugural address as the 111th president of the National Medical Association (NMA), Leonard Weather, Jr., R.Ph., M.D. shared his plans to focus on health disparities, as well the issue of women's health, and problems facing African American physicians during his administration.
Dr. Weather is the Director of Omni Fertility and Laser Institute, Clinical Professor at Xavier University, a former member of Xavier University Research Centers in Minority Institution Advisory Council, and a Past President of the International Society of Laser Surgeons. Weather also developed a laparoscopy procedure called Optical Dissection Pelviscopy.
Dr. Weather is also the author of "Why Can't We Have a Baby" and numerous articles on laser surgery and female disorders. In addition, he is formally the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology of New Orleans General Hospital, Secretary and Treasurer of Medical Staff of Humana Hospital, Vice-Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital and Clinical Instructor at Tulane University Medical School.
A native of Utica, New York, Weather received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Howard University College of Pharmacy in Washington, DC and a doctor of medicine degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Weather's work in the National Medical Association includes leadership positions at the national and local level. He has served as President of the National Medical Association's (NMA) New Orleans Medical Association and Louisiana Medical Association and on the Board of Trustees as Region V Chair. He is also a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors to the Endometriosis Association.

More than 3,500 physicians representing 25 specialties attended the weeklong convention that featured presentations by numerous medical experts, policy makers and industry leaders. Notable convention participants included the Surgeon General Regina Benjamin M.D., Premier Ewart Brown, M.D. of Bermuda, NASA Astronaut Robert Satcher, M.D, Ph.D. and Grammy Award winner Patti LaBelle.
