Congress of Cities Offers In-Depth Coverage of Important City Issues
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National League of Cities is proud to announce that a number of well-known city experts will be keynote speakers at the 2011 Congress of Cities and Exposition, November 9-12 in Phoenix. Speakers include former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, co-chair of Building America's Future; Majora Carter, eco-entrepreneur and founder of Sustainable South Bronx; Edward Glaesar, author, economist and Harvard University professor; and Hill Harper, author, actor and current star of the CBS drama CSI: New York.

In order to provide members with an in-depth exploration of the most pressing challenges facing cities today, the NLC will offer four "concurrent conferences" the Congress of Cities. Topics include economic development, green cities and infrastructure conferences, as well as the National Summit on Your City's Families.
In addition to keynote speakers, conference programming will include workshops, mobile workshop tours and peer networking sessions. Attendees can choose to attend activities from one concurrent conference or can choose to be a "generalist" by sampling activities from all topics. In addition to the four main conference topics, programming also explored the impact of immigration in communities and highlighted the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
In addition to keynote speakers, workshops and peer networking sessions, the Congress of Cities offered the traditional governance activities, leadership training seminars, exhibit hall and committee, council and constituency group meetings. Delegates also learned about innovative programs for cities and towns through the City Showcase. At the conclusion of the conference, the organization elected its 2012 officers and Board of Directors and set organizational policies and priorities for the next year.
