National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators Supports the Decision by Congress to Prevent the Fiscal Cliff
WASHINGTON, Jan. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) supports the decision by Congress to extend tax relief for working and middle-class Americans. The decision conceded upon late last night, will increase taxes on the wealthiest of Americans - individuals earning more than $400,000 and households earning more than $450,000. This plan also allows for taxes on capital gains and dividends to increase, and extends benefits to the unemployed. This resolution comes as a relief to many Americans and is a big stepping stone to solving some of the economic challenges that our nation still faces. In the coming year, NHCSL will continue to follow the decisions made by Congress and keep up to date with newly proposed bills and reforms.
"This decision is a great start to the New Year. It is extremely settling to see members of Congress work together to come to an agreement that benefits the majority of Americans. I hope that the bipartisanship between members will continue throughout the upcoming months as more difficult discussions about spending are to be addressed," said Minnie Gonzalez (CT), President of NHCSL.
The NHCSL is the premier national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and procedures that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country. NHCSL was founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to be the most effective voice for the more than 340 Hispanic legislators.
