National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) Names Senator Victor Ramirez (MD) and Senator Martin Dilan (NY) Chair and Vice Chair of the Law & Criminal Justice Task Force
WASHINGTON, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) announced the appointment of Senator Victor Ramirez (MD) and Senator Martin Dilan (NY) as Chair and Vice Chair of the newly created Law and Criminal Justice Task Force. The role of the task force is to review and develop policy solutions that represent the interests and needs of the Hispanic community on a host of criminal justice, law enforcement and judiciary issues.
Senator Ramirez (MD) had a long tradition of public service. He has donated his services to organizations like the House of Ruth, which provides domestic violence victims with free legal representation. Currently, Senator Ramirez (MD) is a partner at Malouf and Ramirez, LLP in his home state of Maryland. "As Chair, I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure equal application of the law at the state and federal level, as well as highlight local government bodies who are promoting best practices that ensure the active participation of Latinos who wish to improve community safety," stated Senator Ramirez (MD).
Senator Martin Dilan (NY) is currently serving his fifth year in the New York State Senate and most notably serves on the Judiciary and Rules committee. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, Senator Dilan (NY) served ten years as a member of the New York City Council. During his tenure in the City Council, Senator Dilan (NY) distinguished himself as a diligent legislator, while maintaining a strong constituent service operation through his district office.
