National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) Names Senator Eduardo Bhatia (PR) as Chair of the Broadband and Technology Task Force
WASHINGTON, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) proudly announced that Senator Eduardo Bhatia (PR) has been named as Chair of the NHCSL Broadband and Technology Task Force. As Chair of this important policy body, Senator Bhatia (PR) will bring to the forefront issues related to Hispanic access to broadband, digital literacy and how to empower the Latino community to fully benefit from broadband services and the digital economy.
"As Chair of the Broadband and Technology Task Force I will strive to ensure that legislative and regulatory policy making on these rapidly evolving services takes fully into account the needs of the Latino community. Broadband, wireless and technology services have become a vibrant sector of our national economy, with the potential to both empower and invest in our communities," stated Senator Eduardo Bhatia (PR).
Senator Bhatia (PR) has been an advocate of broadband and technology innovation since 2005 when he was Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) in Washington, DC. At PRFAA, he was intimately engaged in discussions on legislation that would impact the Universal Service Funds in Puerto Rico. As a member of NHCSL, Senator Bhatia was an active member of the Broadband En Accion Task Force (BBTF), where he participated in the organization's first forays into developing policy views and recommendations on broadband access with a white paper titled, "Expanding Opportunities in the Hispanic Community: Solutions for Increased Broadband Access."
The NHCSL is the premier national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and procedures that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country.
