WASHINGTON, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) appointed Representative Brenda Lopez de Arraras (PR) as Chair of the Education and Civil Rights Task Force. As Chair, she will lead fellow legislators in developing policy recommendations on education aimed at improving the quality of education, graduation rates and overall educational achievement for the benefit of the Hispanic community.
"With more than 54 million Latinos living in the United States and Puerto Rico, we have a duty to develop strong policies that will further their economic development and social well-being. As the largest and fasted growing minority group in the United States we have to continue our work towards guaranteeing that our children are well trained and that our civil rights are well guarded," said Representative Lopez de Arraras (PR).
Assisting Representative Brenda Lopez de Arraras (PR) is her newly appointed Vice Chair, Representative Alonzo Baldonado (NM). A native of New Mexico, Representative Alonzo Baldonado (NM) will add a fresh element to the task forces appointees as this is his first term as an elected official but comes with a strong interest in improving the quality of education for our children. "As part of the Education & Civil Rights Task Force of NHCSL I look forward to working with the membership to encourage education reform that gives Hispanic American families every advantage to excel." stated Representative Baldonado (NM).
