National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) Names Assemblymember Manuel Perez (CA) as Chair of the Business & Economic Development Task Force
WASHINGTON, March 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) proudly announces Assemblymember Manuel Perez (CA) as the new Chair of the Business and Economic Development Task Force. With the support of his newly appointed Vice Chair, Representative Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico, the Task Force's primary goal will be to develop policy platforms that will advance the economic needs of millions of Latino families across the nation.
"It's an honor to serve as chair of the NHCSL Business and Economic Development Task Force," said Assemblymember Perez (CA). "I look forward to working with the task force members to advance an empowerment agenda that emphasizes community investment and job creation, helping to ensure all Americans are able to succeed in and benefit from the new economy."
Assemblymember Perez, a California State Assembly Member representing eastern Riverside and Imperial Counties, serves as the chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy. He also chairs the Budget and Policy Subcommittee in the California Latino Legislative Caucus. During his tenure in these roles, he has actively pursued a local economic recovery agenda by supporting small business access to capital, defending the Enterprise Zone program from elimination in state budget negotiations, and working on common sense regulatory reform.
"As legislators, we are all deeply committed to improving the communities we serve, and that often begins with the economic and financial well-being of our constituents. It means promoting those policies that help create jobs, that help families in distress stay in their homes, that create a business environment that promotes innovation and small business creation, and much more," said NHCSL President, Representative Gonzalez (CT). "I have no doubt that Assemblymember Perez (CA) and Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon (PR) will help our organization educate and advocate successfully in our nation's capital."
The NHCSL is the premier national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and procedures that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country. NHCSL was founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to be the most effective voice for the more than 340 Hispanic legislators.
