National Fidelity Mortgage (NFM, Inc.) Applauds Work of Habitat for Humanity, Celebrates Unique Approach and Donor Support
Habitat for Humanity took a risk in Oregon by purchasing vacant land in an effort to secure cheaper locations for future housing projects. BALTIMORE, June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- National Fidelity Mortgage (NFM, Inc.) is a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity. As such, the company was delighted to hear a recent New York Times report that Habitat for Humanity has created a unique strategy in Oregon—and received a great deal of support in its efforts. The organization has bought foreclosed and repossessed land at a discounted price in an effort to save it for future development projects, thanks in large part to the generosity of a Mr. John Gray, who donated two million dollars to the cause. A non-profit organization that provides housing for those in need, this is an uncommon attempt of the organization to plan for Habitat communities, as it typically builds one house at a time. NFM, Inc. applauds the work of both the philanthropist and the organization.
According to the report, the land that has been secured will create owner-occupied housing on entire blocks of the east side of Portland. The loans secured by owners, who by Habitat's requirements will make 30 to 60 percent of the average income in Portland, are zero-interest. Furthermore, the neighborhood will be further rooted in the pride of ownership because these residents will have helped build the homes themselves.
"The philosophies and values embodied within both Habitat for Humanity and NFM, Inc. have allowed us to take advantage of what is already available and create something that will have a lasting impact on people's lives," commented Colin Lisk, Payroll Manager at NFM, Inc. "Here at NFM, Inc. we understand that everyone deserves a place to call home, which is why we donate ten dollars to National Habitat for Humanity's Massachusetts division every time we close a Massachusetts loan. Building relationships with people and watching hard work come to life is an invaluable experience that NFM, Inc. helps facilitate through our involvement with Habitat for Humanity. Being able to deliver the American Dream of home ownership provides an overwhelming sense of pride and community throughout NFM, Inc."
NFM, Inc. looks forward to its continued support of Habitat for Humanity and encourages other companies to become involved with non-profit organizations in their communities.
