National Federation of the Blind Selects Discover Technologies' SharePoint Accessibility Solution
RESTON, Va., May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Discover Technologies, LLC, a Reston, Virginia IT services and software company, announced today that the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has chosen the Discover 508 for SharePoint solution to be used in conjunction with Microsoft's SharePoint Online service to provide a collaboration platform that is usable by all blind and low-vision SharePoint users. Discover 508 for SharePoint provides SharePoint workers with a new architecture that facilitates use by blind and low vision technologists.
NFB decided to add this software to its internal environment after learning that Discover 508 makes it easy for blind and low vision workers using SharePoint to perform core collaborative tasks such as uploading documents, creating lists and libraries, setting up calendar events and editing Wiki content.
Anne Taylor, NFB's Director of Access Technology, said: "Discover 508 makes SharePoint usable by our blind employees and permits them to take advantage of the collaborative functionality SharePoint has to offer. While we will continue to demand that Microsoft integrate accessibility into all of its products and services, we appreciate the development of Discover 508."
SharePoint Online is a cloud-based service, hosted by Microsoft for businesses of all sizes. Instead of installing and deploying SharePoint Server on premises, businesses can now simply subscribe to an online service. Discover 508 for SharePoint Online is an app that is available as an online service for the Office-365 SharePoint application in addition to being offered as an on premises product for use with SharePoint 2010 and 2013.
Dave Truitt, Discover's President and CEO commented "No other solution does as much to address and improve usability within SharePoint. The product also immediately remediates many 508 issues upon installation that are not typically addressed by other 508 tools." Truitt went on to say, "We are glad to be working with the National Federation of the Blind to provide cutting edge technology that improves both the work experience and productivity levels of their blind technologists."
