National Event Connects NFL Alumni to New Career Opportunities
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Former NFL players will have an opportunity for up to eight first interviews with top employers, meet with leading franchises and connect with entrepreneurial resources on March 24-25 at Pizza Hut World Headquarters, Plano, TX. Ascending Athletes and The Winston Group are partnering on the Business Symposium, which provides a unique opportunity for former players to network and embark on their next careers.
Business Symposium's Networking Event will be sponsored by the NFL Alumni Association. "We are happy to support Ascending Athletes' program because it aligns with our organization's mission," said Joe Pisarcik, President and CEO of the NFL Alumni. "We aim to help former players succeed in their post-NFL lives, and connecting alumni to potential new career opportunities is a great way to do that."
According to Lamonte Winston, Director of Player Engagement for the Oakland Raiders, "This event provides athletes with a chance to control the next step in their career." After a career on the field, athletes need to reinvent their careers, and the symposium gives attendees the opportunity to build their resumes, meet with select companies and participate in mock interviews.
"The networking event is a great opportunity for former and current NFL players to meet and interview with a wide variety of excellent companies. Ascending Athletes also provides us with much-needed coaching on how to improve our interviewing skills and communicate effectively," explained former NFL player Jamie Silva. "In the past, this event has featured some excellent speakers that are both highly successful and inspirational businessmen."
Ray Mickens, an 11-year NFL veteran, explained, "At this event, I was able to network and listen to leaders from top franchises talk about strategies that were very helpful for my business. Being able to speak with other entrepreneurs and discuss ideas and issues has benefitted me as I continue to learn and grow."
Ryan Moats, former Philadelphia Eagle and Houston Texans' running back, is passionate about former players taking advantage of this unique opportunity. "We all know the sport is not a race built only with physical attributes, but mental skill sets that allowed you to play at a high level in the NFL," said Moats. "NFL athletes are a rare breed with unique skills to offer businesses as we continue to grow after leaving the sport. This event helps attendees approach their new careers in a smarter, stronger and more powerful way. I encourage any NFLer to invest in himself because it will pay benefits down the road in terms of your future career."
Ascending Athletes will have top national employers -- such as Johnson & Johnson, Stryker, State Farm and many more -- interviewing at the Business Symposium in March. "We are very excited about our participating employers, franchises and entrepreneurial resources for this Symposium," said Andy Schroeder, President of Ascending Athletes. "We are grateful for Pizza Hut hosting us this year – this is going to be our biggest and best event yet."
