ATLANTA, Jan. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert L. Boscamp will head up APOGEE's energy education initiatives, focusing on systems that enable individuals, businesses and other enterprises to reduce their energy costs and improve their environmental footprint.
The Arizona State University graduate founded the energy consulting firm Enercom Inc. in 1976 and introduced the nation's first U.S. Department of Energy-approved computerized energy audit system. Using phone modems to access mainframe computers for analysis, the system enabled utilities to meet the mandate to conduct millions of home energy audits as a part of the 1978 National Energy Act. It quickly grew to serve 350 of the nation's largest electric and gas utilities in 46 states and provide energy reduction recommendations and cost saving estimates to residential consumers.
That initiative led him to negotiate strategic partnerships with General Electric and Equifax to grow those companies into the nation's leading providers of energy audits. Boscamp moved on to lead Equifax Utility Information Services and pioneer key risk management and marketing tools for the energy industry still in use today.
In the early 1990s he founded EcoGroup Inc., an energy and environmental consulting firm that eventually became part of TransUnion. There Boscamp developed an award-winning energy and education program – In Concert With the Environment – that was recognized by the U.S. Departments of Energy, Environment and Education for its positive social impact. Like remotely computed energy audits, In Concert With the Environment quickly set the pace for utility education programs across the nation.
"I'm proud to work with Bob to raise the bar on what can be done using the latest Internet and mobile technologies to deliver actionable energy education," said Susan Gilbert, APOGEE President and Chief Executive Officer.
"Bob will leverage APOGEE's broad base of online energy courses, certified Web development capability and accredited energy auditing tools to help utilities produce measurable and persistent energy savings among consumers," Gilbert said.
Boscamp added, "Our nation is primed for programs that achieve sustainable energy savings. APOGEE has the technology, expertise and industry relationships to deliver and document those results for energy companies nationwide," he said.
Boscamp currently serves on the boards of directors for Strategic Solar Energy, a for-profit company focused on delivering renewable energy generation globally, and Fuel the Mission, a non-profit organization focused on construction projects around the world.
