National Defense Transportation Association Presents 2011 Quality Award to Graebel
DENVER, Colo., March 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Defense Transportation Association (NDTC) president LTG Kenneth R. Wyle, USA (ret) and SDDC CG MG Kevin A. Leonard presented the NDTC 2011 Quality Award to The Graebel Companies, Inc. on March 7th. The NDTA Quality award is presented annually to corporations in the transportation industry in recognition of their commitment to excellence. Its presentation is a highlight during the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) Symposium Awards Banquet that was held in Denver, Colorado. Accepting the NDTC Quality Award on behalf of The Graebel Companies, Inc. was chief executive officer, William Graebel, SGMS. Also attending from Graebel were Tom Theisen, general manager and regional vice president, Craig Carver, director of military and government services and Charlie Shockley, moving services project manager.
Among the nearly three thousand suppliers of the National Defense Transportation Association, Graebel was one of only nine total companies to receive the Quality Award for 2011. Graebel was nominated by Richard Jennings, USA Reserve Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This nomination was the result of the Company's innovative, cost-efficient practices that led to multi-million dollar savings for the interstate moving services conducted for military personnel and transferred equipment to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A 32-person Graebel moving team performed services following the closures of the Fort McPherson and Fort Gilem posts in accordance to the Base Closure and Realignment Commission ruling in 2005 that shuttered both posts by fall 2011.
Hundreds of military personnel were relocated by Graebel to temporary quarters during the year-end holiday season of 2010. Graebel conducted their second move, when permanent housing was completed during the peak of the 2011 summer moving season.
Concurrently, Graebel relocated the USARC museum and national archives from Georgia to North Carolina. The USARC museum is home to an extensive collection of priceless military artifacts with many that predate the Civil War.
William Graebel remarked, "We are honored and humbled to be nominated and to receive this tremendous Quality recognition. On behalf of our global relocation and moving organization we congratulate and thank Tom Theisen, Charlie Shockley, Craig Carver, and their team for the strategic planning and cost-efficient deployment of resources and for the immense physical hard work that went into delivering an award-winning relocation."
