BALTIMORE, Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Cyber Security Hall of Fame announced today that National Cyber Security Hall of Famer, Jim Bidzos, Verisign's President and CEO, will be the keynote speaker at its fifth annual award ceremony on October 20 at the Baltimore Hilton at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland. The event honors individuals who played a key role in the creation of the cyber security industry.
As the founder of Verisign, Mr. Bidzos is an internet and security industry pioneer whose accomplishments include building RSA Security into the early standard-bearer for authentication and encryption, and launching Verisign as a company in 1995 to develop the digital certificate infrastructure for internet commerce.
Before returning to the president and chief executive role in 2011, Mr. Bidzos served as Verisign's first president and CEO and also as the company's chairman of the board of directors. From 2001 to 2007, Mr. Bidzos held the position of vice chairman, and as interim CEO from 2008 to 2009. Mr. Bidzos served as president and CEO of RSA Security from 1986 to 1999, and served as RSA's vice chairman from 1999 to May 2002.
Mr. Bidzos was named one of Time Magazine's "Digital 50," and is in CRN's Computer Industry Hall of Fame. "It will be very special to have a previous honoree back to keynote the inductee ceremony," said Larry Letow, co-founder of the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame. "He is a terrific speaker and recognized as an industry icon."
Each year at its award ceremony, the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame inducts cyber security innovators into its Hall of Fame. Inductees are nominated by qualified organizations engaged in cyber security, then ranked and reviewed by the board using established criteria in five categories: Technology, Policy, Public Awareness, Education and Business. The 2016 honorees were announced in September. They are Horst Feistel, Dan Geer, Lance Hoffman, Paul Karger, Butler Lampson, Leonard LaPadula, and William Murray.
Tickets for the Cyber Security Hall of Fame Gala are $250 and available at the Cyber Security Hall of Fame website. All proceeds are utilized for the development of programs supporting the mission of the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame.
