National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Names Seven 2010 Recipients of 'Champion of Consumer Rights' Award

WASHINGTON, April 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) released today the names of the seven 2010 recipients of its "Champion of Consumer Rights" award, including four members of Congress. The Champion of Consumer Rights award was established in 1993 and is given annually to recognize and honor those individuals who have distinguished themselves through leadership, scholarship, or legal advocacy by giving voice to American families facing financial crisis.
With more than 4,700 members, NACBA (http://www.nacba.org) is the only national organization dedicated to serving the needs of consumer bankruptcy attorneys and protecting the rights of consumer debtors in bankruptcy. The Champion of Consumer Rights award was established by NACBA in 1993.
The 2010 recipients of the Champion of Consumer Rights award are:
- Professor Ingrid Michelsen Hillinger, Boston College Law School;
- Professor Kenneth N. Klee, UCLA School of Law;
- Assistant Professor Alan White, Valparaiso University School of Law;
- U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (TN-9);
- U.S. Representative Bill Delahunt (MA-10);
- U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18); and
- U.S. Representative Brad Miller, North Carolina (NC-13).
NACBA President Carey Ebert commended this year's recipients: "In an atmosphere of unprecedented home foreclosures, unemployment and soaring medical costs, American families desperately needed someone to champion their concerns. This year's recipients have answered the call and stepped up to help struggling Americans in economic crisis. Previous recipients of the NACBA Champion of Consumer Rights award include: U.S. Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois; U.S. Representatives John Conyers (MI-14) Zoe Lofgren (CA-16) and Linda Sanchez (CA-39); Professor Elizabeth Warren of Harvard Law School; and U.S. Bankruptcy Judges Marilyn Morgan (Northern District of California) and Thomas Waldron (Southern District of Ohio).
