National American University Foundation Awards $500,000 In Scholarships In Five Years
RAPID CITY, S.D., Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National American University Foundation recently awarded Academic Excellence Scholarships to 70 National American University (NAU) students.
"Our scholarship recipients are so deserving," said Tamie Hopp, NAU's Director of Alumni and Foundation Services. "All have maintained at least a cumulative 3.66 grade point average (GPA) and many are doing so while working and supporting their families. They are inspirations."
"My husband and I are working hard to provide for our six children," said Jessica Karpinkse, a scholarship recipient. "I know that additional education is necessary to help them, and they provide me the strength I need to keep advancing my degree. Ultimately, I hope to use my Criminal Justice degree to be an advocate for children in the legal system."
A commitment to paying it forward is a common theme among scholarship recipients.
Alejandra Delgado, a nursing student, has maintained a high GPA despite working full-time and raising three children. As a future nurse, she hopes to "help the helpless, heal the ill, and make a difference in the lives of my patients."
Founded in 1967, the nonprofit NAU Foundation has long provided scholarships for students who are excelling academically. For the past five years, the Foundation's board of directors has committed a half-million dollars for student and faculty development scholarships.
"Academic Excellence Scholarships both reward and inspire academic excellence," said Jim Olson, President of the NAU Foundation. "All of our recipients demonstrate great potential as leaders in their future careers and communities."
The NAU Foundation scholarships are sponsored, in part, by several corporate, individual, and alumni donors (see, www.naufoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Thank-You-Corporate-Sponsors.pdf).
With over 30 locations in 10 states, NAU offers associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs in business, information technology, healthcare, and legal studies.
