National Alliance For Hispanic Health On Appellate Court Decision On NYC's Proposed Rule Limiting Portion Size Of Sugary Beverages
Court ruling fails the health of New Yorkers
Beverage industry strategy of obstruction through the courts is harming the health and well-being of New Yorkers
NEW YORK, July 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Statement of Jane L. Delgado, Ph.D., M.S., President and CEO, National Alliance for Hispanic Health:
"Today's court ruling fails the health of New Yorkers. The beverage industry's strategy of obstruction through legal challenges is preventing implementation of a common sense approach to healthy environments.
"Limiting serving sizes of sugary beverages to 16 ounces is a modest and reasonable policy that deserves to be tried. It could save lives and decrease the burden of disease, including Type 2 diabetes that affects one in ten adults in New York City.
"We applaud Mayor Bloomberg's decision to appeal and look forward to the NY Court of Appeals making the right decision for the Health of New Yorkers and the nation."
