The previous record of 2,997 was beaten by the crowd taking in the St. Louis Cardinals game against the visiting Detroit Tigers.
A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator was on-site to immediately verify and confirm the record.

Joey Chestnut, the eight-time defending Nathan's Famous National Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion, was on-hand and participated by taking a selfie at the stadium with the famous Gateway Arch in the background.

Chestnut alluded to The Original Selfie Sweepstakes, which officially opens on Monday, May 18 at 12:00 a.m. EDT.
