Natchez, Mississippi, Named One of the Nation's Friendliest Cities
NATCHEZ, Miss., Aug. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Natchez, Mississippi is a city famous for Southern hospitality -- and now its friendly factor has earned a national nod. Conde Nast Traveler magazine has named Natchez one of the friendliest cities in the country.
The article on CNTraveler.com praises Natchez's "sweetly Southern" residents, beautiful architecture and "slower pace of life". The designation came from the magazine's annual Readers' Choice Survey, where people were asked to rank cities on a whole host of factors. As far as friendliness, Natchez came in at number seven on the list, with a score of 83.
"We're so excited about this honor," said Natchez Director of Tourism Connie Taunton. "We pride ourselves on making everyone feel welcome, and are always eager to roll out the red carpet for new and returning visitors!"
According to Conde Nast, "In the Readers' Choice Survey, readers rate cities on a number of factors including 'friendliness.' Southern hospitality shines on that front—in the Top 10, all but three of the cities are in the South—while a total of five towns in the stereotypically brash Northeast earned spots on the mean-city list."
With the motto, "It's What You Love About the South," Natchez has long been known for hospitality, warmth and an accepting attitude towards visitors and locals alike.
In 2016, the city will celebrate its tricentennial with a year-long celebration including Natchez Food & Wine Festival, the Beer, Bourbon and Biscuits Festival, a Civil War-themed mud run, a kayak challenge, pop up shops, kid's activities, themed tours, concerts, historical reenactments, culinary showcases and more -- and everyone is invited to the party, where the city's legendary friendliness will be on full display.
