NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, the first US Secretary of Homeland Security, will offer insights on security, risk reduction, and crisis management in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. Mr. Ridge is the keynote speaker at the 2015 Risk Symposium hosted by the Cumberland Chapter of the Risk & Insurance Management Society.

Mr. Ridge led the US Department of Homeland Security from its creation in January of 2003, following the Sept. 11 attacks. During his two-year tenure, he worked with more than 180,000 employees to create an agency that facilitated the flow of people and goods, instituted layered security at air, land, and seaports, developed a unified national response and recovery plan, protected critical infrastructure, integrated new technology, and improved information sharing worldwide. He served as Pennsylvania governor from 1995 to 2001 as well as serving six terms in the US House of Representatives. He was a US Army staff sergeant in Vietnam, where he earned the Bronze Star for valor.
