NASA Talk Has Out of This World Weather Forecast

HAMPTON, Va., July 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Using creativity, weather on other planets has never been so clear.

On Tuesday, July 12, at NASA Langley Research Center here, Michael Carroll will present, "Drifting on Alien Winds: Exploring the Skies and Weather on Other Worlds," at 2 p.m. in the Reid Conference Center. Carroll will explain the newest scientific discoveries involving the weather across the solar system as well as ideas for traveling through the atmosphere of distant planets.

Carroll will be available to answer questions from the media during a news briefing at 1:15 p.m. that day. Media should contact Chris Rink at 757-864-6786, or by e-mail at [email protected], by noon on the day of the talk for credentials and entry to the center.

That same evening at 7:30, Carroll will present a similar talk for the general public at the Virginia Air & Space Museum in downtown Hampton. The presentation is free and no reservations are required.

An astronomical artist and science writer, Carroll will lead the audience on a discovery mission of distant planets' skies and weather patterns and share insights on designers' ideas for future space travel.

Carroll's art has appeared in several hundred magazines, including National Geographic, Time, Scientific American, Smithsonian, Astronomy, Sky and Telescope, and others. A painting of Carroll's is in digital form on the deck of Phoenix Lander on the surface of Mars, and another piece flew aboard the MIR space station.

Carroll is a Fellow of the International Association for the Astronomical Arts. In 2007, he was awarded the Lucien Rudaux Award for his lifetime contribution to the astronomical arts.
