WASHINGTON, June 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA's Space Flight Awareness Program recently recognized Stephanie Schierholz of Colorado Springs, Colo., social media manager for NASA's Office of Communications, for her outstanding support of human spaceflight.

In addition to serving as a public affairs officer for the Space Operations Mission Directorate, Schierholz has embraced her new role as NASA's social media manager, sharing the agency's message with the public through a multitude of social media sites and activities. She has coordinated NASA mission tweetups at Headquarters in Washington and five events at the Kennedy Space Center, Fla., dedicating herself to each set of 150 tweetup participants who come from around the world at their own expense to spend two days at the Kennedy press site to learn about the Space Shuttle Program and view a launch.
NASA's Space Flight Awareness Program recognizes outstanding job performances and contributions by civil service and contract employees throughout the year. It focuses on excellence in quality and safety in support of human spaceflight.
The Honoree Award is one of the highest honors presented to NASA employees for their dedication to quality work and flight safety. Recipients must have contributed beyond their normal work requirements toward achieving a particular human spaceflight program goal; contributed to a major cost savings; been instrumental in developing material that increases reliability, efficiency or performance; assisted in operational improvements; or been a key player in developing a beneficial process improvement.
