MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) announced today that clinical leaders Rafael Cartagena, MD, Regional Director and Salvatore Vitale, MD, Chief of Anesthesia, and administrative leader, Franc Galinanes, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives are featured authors in the American Society of Anesthesiologists' (ASA) January 2017 issue of the ASA Monitor. The editorial focus of the newsletter is practice management.
Dr. Cartagena and Mr. Galinanes' article entitled, "Positioning Your Practice to Succeed in a Value-based Era" focuses on how anesthesiology practices can leverage data to best-position themselves to successfully meet the needs of their patients in the challenging healthcare environment. According to Dr. Cartagena, "In the value-based payment era, when patient satisfaction is measurable and reimbursable, medical providers must take a proactive approach to 21st century technology tools that capture and measure consumer attitudes and outcomes, and support CMS Merit-based incentive payments." In the article, the authors provide further insights to anesthesia practices related to capturing, analyzing and utilizing data that measures the patient experience, satisfaction and overall value.
In Dr. Vitale's article, 'Healing Is an Art, Medicine Is a Science, and Health Care Is a Business,' the Past President of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists notes, "While we obtain a great deal of training in the art and science of medicine through CME courses, the business of medicine is often relegated to on-the-job training." He further emphasizes the importance of the business side of medicine and the necessary effort to improve this aspect of an anesthesiologist's education.
As such, the ASA has assembled a panel of renowned experts to lead a preconference during PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 2017 on January 27, 2017. Dr. Vitale will be moderating the panel. The preconference will focus on billing, coding and compliance. Attendees will learn:
- How billing and coding anesthesia services are performed
- Identify updated and recent changes in billing practices
- Identify regulations that impact billing for anesthesia services
