Interactive and Educational Exhibit on Maritime Lifesaving Practices Now Open in Nantucket
NANTUCKET, Mass., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum is now open with a new exhibit, "Throw Out the Lifeline: Maritime Lifesaving Practices Procedures and Pastimes". The exhibit will delight adults and children, featuring a colorful mural by local artist David Lazarus as well as indoor and outdoor interactive activities. The museum's expansive lawn will host a breeches buoy for exploring and a replica surfboat with rowing tension to give children a realistic example of what rowing a boat feels like.
The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, an affiliate of the Egan Maritime Institute, shares the fascinating stories of yesterday's maritime heroes through permanent and changing interpretive exhibits and special events. The Museum houses a collection of over 5,000 objects, including surfboats, beach carts, vintage photographs and more; a taping of Mr. Rogers and "Madaket Millie"; an interactive shipwreck map; and a whimsical Newfoundland dog chair created by 'Sconset' artist, Clara Urbahn.
