NanoPack to Conduct Hackathon on Nanotech Acceptance at Active & Intelligent Packaging World Congress
The EU-funded project will explore consumer acceptance and regulatory compliance of nano-technologies in packaging and will present preliminary results at the AIPIA World Congress in Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM, October 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
The EU-funded NanoPack Project will organize an Idea Hackathon on the "Acceptance of Nano-Technology," at the Active & Intelligent Packaging World Congress, which will take place November 2-3, 2017 in Amsterdam.
NanoPack, which develops state-of-the-art antimicrobial packaging solutions to improve food safety and reduce food waste, will also present its innovative solution at Booth #29.
The Hackathon will look at consumer and regulatory acceptance of nano-technologies in packaging. The event is coordinated by NanoPack, and project partner Active & Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA), which is organizing the congress.
The Hackathon will take place at 14:25 to 15:55 on Thursday, November 2. Participants will include NanoPack's coordinator, Ester Segal, associate professor at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology; Eef de Ferrante, AIPIA's managing director; Nina McGrath, Food Safety Projects manager at EUFIC-European Food Information Council, and Nathalie Muller, CEO of Linkz IM.
Prof. Segal will also conduct a session entitled "How Nano Technology in Packaging Helps Reduce Food Waste" on November 2 at 11:00, during which she will detail the current status of the NanoPack Project and its achievements to date.
"Nanotechnology can and will enhance food safety for consumers by significantly inhibiting growth of food-borne microbes, which in turn will prevent food-borne illness outbreaks and early spoilage," said Prof. Segal. "Europe will become the leader in food nanotechnology and smart antimicrobial packaging, which can help to increase competitiveness and economic growth."
"We are delighted to be able to use the AIPIA Congress as a platform to reach out to a wide spectrum of stakeholders. It is an ideal opportunity to gather information, gauge attitudes and opinions, and to help us address some of the challenges we face," she added.
