Nanea Reeves Hired as textPlus President, Reuniting Former JAMDAT Leadership Team
Reeves to continue to the focus on disruption, putting the "plus" in textPlus
MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- textPlus—the mobile app that does everything your carrier does at a fraction of the cost—announced today that Nanea Reeves has been hired as its new President. The hiring reunites Reeves with the successful leadership team she worked with at JAMDAT several years ago.
Reeves, who was named by Digital Media Wire as one of the "25 Executives to Watch in Digital Media," has a history of architecting disruption and creating value while remaining keenly focused on new and meaningful consumer experiences. She has led the launch of numerous products, platforms and consumer destinations across mobile and social applications, video game publishing, entertainment and e-commerce. Her passion to continue that streak in 'over the top' (OTT) communications is why she has joined textPlus.
In her new role, Reeves will be responsible for day-to-day operations. With her expertise and track record for identifying and leveraging burgeoning trends, she is expected to quickly scale textPlus by bringing its global user base and revenues to new heights, as well as usher in the next era of mobile communications.
"It makes such an incredible difference to join a team where we trust each implicitly from the start, because you can skip the awkward stage and begin scaling immediately," said Reeves. "textPlus has consistently rewritten the rules and it's exciting to become part of the brand now, just as we begin to accelerate the oncoming disruption of modern communications."
The hiring is a reunion for Reeves and textPlus' co-founders Scott Lahman, Austin Murray and Zachary Norman who met when they were all founding members of the JAMDAT management team. Together, they built that company into a gaming juggernaut – first taking it public, and then selling it to Electronic Arts in 2006 for $680 million.
"Nanea jumped into mobile games when people said no one would play on their phones, she tackled interactive streaming when people didn't think that would be meaningful and she built digital entertainment destinations ahead of the curve," said Lahman. "With Nanea back on the team we're even better positioned to focus on the 'Plus' elements of textPlus."
Prior to textPlus, Reeves joined Machinima, one of the largest online video networks (most recently funded by Google in 2012) as Chief Operating Officer where she was also responsible for the product development of Machinima's new digital distribution platform. Previously she was Chief Product & Strategy Officer for gaming technology company Gaikai, which sold to Sony for $380 Million.
"Nanea has always been one of the best operators around, so it's really exciting to have the band back together again," said Lahman.
Reeves is very active in her husband's non-profit organization karmablast.org dedicated to creating small charitable acts around the world. In addition, she is very focused on helping disadvantaged women in Los Angeles through participation in Step Up Network for Women and her Board of Directors position for Friendly House Los Angeles.
