Latino Voters and Candidates in Election 2012 will also be highlighted
WASHINGTON, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two weeks before Election Day, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund will brief media on the findings of a new policy paper assessing the potential impact of voting laws on the Latino electorate this November. The event will take place at 10 AM on October 23rd at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
While Latino turnout is poised to reach historic heights this November, Latino voters are still facing significant obstacles. In recent years, these obstacles have taken the form of restrictive state voting laws and procedures that make it harder for Latino voters to cast ballots. Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund Executive Director, will take a closer look at these voting laws and discuss the number of Latino voters expected to be negatively impacted in 2012 and beyond.
The event will also feature timely and in-depth analysis of key races across the country, including elections where Latino voters and candidates could make history this November. According to the NALEO Educational Fund, more than 12.2 million Latino voters are expected to head to the polls on November 6, an increase of 26 percent from 2008.
