Established in 1991, ICCTA represents the interests of over 1500 chemical distributors world-wide. ICCTA was set up to coordinate work on issues and programs of international interest across chemical trade associations. ICCTA provides a platform where chemical distributors from many different sectors can meet and exchange information and best practices. ICCTA also advocates for its members on a global scale.
NACD has participated in ICCTA for over 15 years. As a member participant, NACD shares information about its Responsible Distribution program and metrics with the global community with other ICCTA associations. Upon accepting the presidency, Brainerd stated in a letter to the 22 member association, "I feel strongly committed to programs like Responsible Distribution, Responsible Care, and Social Responsibility, but am compelled to state that the true success of those programs is only possible through independent, third-party verifications (TPV). One of my initiatives as ICCTA President is to advance the TPV programs among ICCTA members so that all ICCTA Members will be fully compliant with TPV…"
Jahn seconded, "Just as the Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors (CACD), the Brazilian Association of Chemicals Distributors (Associquim), and NACD have independent third party verifications of our Responsible Distribution programs, we would like all ICCTA members to commit to the same type of integrity and accountability that only exists through an independent assessment of a distributor's policies and procedures."
Brainerd and Jahn will share relevant resources with ICCTA member associations, but noted that the first step is for the ICCTA associations to commit to a third-party verification program like Responsible Distribution.
