SAN DIEGO, Nov. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Chemical Distributors' (NACD) released its 2012 Membership & Safety Report yesterday at the 2012 Annual Meeting. The Report, based on 2011 data, states "NACD member companies generated $30 billion in sales in 2011. In 2011, members drove more than 165 million miles to deliver 1.03 tons of product every second.

NACD members remained focused on safety and performance through Responsible Distribution, safely and securely delivering products to customers who represent virtually every industry sector in the United States. Safety performance remained better than non-member companies in the Chemical and Allied Merchant Wholesale Industry (NAICS 42469) and nearly twice as good as all manufacturing combined, based on the most current data available.
"2011 proved to be a markedly better year for our membership. Sales were up, safety improvements were made in many areas and more jobs were created," said NACD President Chris Jahn. "It's clear that NACD members are working hard to continuously improve their safety performance while driving more product to the market for their manufacturer partners. Responsible Distribution's framework provides an excellent structure to enhance efficiencies while maintaining a focus on seeking improvements wherever possible. These results demonstrate how positive the results can be."
The report also stated that NACD member companies are responsible for more than 150,000 direct and indirect jobs in the United States and their 2011 job growth contributed an additional $2 billion to the national economy.
NACD began tracking the results of its membership and performance data on a voluntary basis in 2001. The data in the 2012 Report is based on submissions from the NACD regular membership and are based on 2012 results.
NACD and its over 400 member companies are vital to the chemical supply chain providing products to over 750,000 end users. They make a delivery every six seconds while maintaining a safety record that is more than twice as good as all manufacturing combined. NACD members are leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of Responsible Distribution, established in 1991 as a condition of membership and a third-party verified management practice.
