For over four years now, real security measures have been implemented at facilities around the nation because of CFATS (Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards). With a multi-year extension of CFATS as set forth in the Committee's bill, H.R. 901, DHS will have the time to evaluate the more than 4100 site security plans submitted and to inspect the facilities.
"This common sense, bipartisan legislation will truly enhance security. CFATS is a major regulatory commitment on behalf of DHS and the chemical distribution industry. NACD members are willing to invest the time and resources to comply with this important regulation and would welcome the certainty of a clean, long-term extension," said NACD President Chris Jahn. "We look forward to working with Congressmen and Senators to finalize a long term renewal of the law before it expires on September 30. The House Homeland Security Committee's actions are an important step in this process."
NACD and its 390 member companies are vital to the chemical supply chain providing products to over 750,000 end users.
