Mr. Brooks is president and chief executive officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), known as "the nation's oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots–based civil rights organization." The luncheon is organized by Cadwalader's Black & Latino Association.
During the presentation, Mr. Brooks will discuss his experience as a civil rights attorney, social justice advocate, and president of the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. He also will discuss pressing civil rights issues and current events. A Q&A segment will immediately follow his speech.
Mr. Brooks, a longtime lawyer, human rights activist, and fourth-generation ordained minister, previously served as the president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice based in Newark. He has held several positions affecting public policy, including serving as senior counsel for the Federal Communications Commission, executive director of the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington, and as a trial attorney with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
