In 2021, n-tech expects to see almost 40 MW of DSC delivered for BIPV applications, which will be well over half the DSC shipments that year. In addition to DSC's relatively high-energy conversion efficiency other factors that make DSC attractive in the BIPV market include the fact that DSC panels can easily be fabricated to deliver diverse colors, shapes and transparency. The report projects that almost 425 MW of DSC will be shipped by 2025.
This report also appraises the commercial significance of recent technical developments in the DSC space, especially the emergence of improved electrolytes both solid-state and liquid. n-tech also expects major improvements in manufacturing of DSC panels to occur. While the market for DSC materials will most likely remain a niche, many of the materials used in DSC panels – dyes and ionic liquids, for example – have other applications.
