Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Returns to the Grand Strand
Annual Race Set for Sun., Oct. 19; Events to Take Place Throughout Weekend
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The annual Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon, a 13.1-mile race through the tranquil, oceanfront streets of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, will take place on Sun., Oct. 19, 2014. Race events will happen throughout the entire weekend, including a 2-day health and fitness expo, the Coastal 5K race and the popular 1.5-mile Doggie Dash.

The event is one of the East Coast's fastest-growing races and, according to vacation rental website FlipKey, is among the country's top 50 races or marathons worth traveling to experience.
"The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon is a runner's dream," said Robert Pozo, Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon race founder and director. "With an average low temperature of 45 degrees at the start of the race, an average high of 66 degrees at the finish line, plus a course that includes five miles of gorgeous ocean views, the race is the perfect setting and temperature for runners, especially those looking to set a personal record."
The Mini Marathon features a surfing-theme to pay homage to its coastal host, complete with surfboard finisher medals, surf-style bands and a post-race beach party. The flat course is also walker friendly and will include surf band entertainment before finishing on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
Details of the weekend's events include:
- 2-day Health and Fitness Expo: Oct. 17 from 2 to 7 p.m. and Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
- Coastal 5k: Oct. 18 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
- 1.5-mile Doggie Dash: Oct. 18 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
- 13.1-mile Mini Marathon: Oct. 19 beginning at 7 a.m. from the Coastal Grand Mall
