MyHealthDIRECT Appoints Tom Cox to CEO
Former Healthways COO Adds National Industry and Network Expertise
MILWAUKEE, July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MyHealthDIRECT, the nation's first and only healthcare scheduling exchange, announced today that its board of directors has appointed Tom Cox, a current MyHealthDIRECT board member, to the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2012. Cox will replace MyHealthDIRECT founder Jay Mason, who will remain with the company and continue to serve as a Board Member.
Cox joins the company full-time after serving as Chief Operating Officer of Healthways, Inc., the global provider of well-being improvement solutions, where he oversaw sales, marketing and communications, market and delivery operations. Previously, he served as President of Concentra Network Services.
"I'm thrilled to be joining MyHealthDIRECT," said Cox. "The company's approach to system-wide patient scheduling will be a critical part of helping our healthcare system become more efficient, effective and user-friendly."
Backed by Chrysalis Ventures and Arboretum Ventures, MyHealthDIRECT provides its Healthcare Scheduling Exchange(sm) services through a web-based platform to enable health plans, hospital systems, physician groups and other participants in care delivery to search for, schedule and confirm appointments on behalf of patients. The company's technology, which effectively creates a community-wide inventory of available health services, was one of the first third-party modules available on the Optum cloud-based patient care platform launched earlier this year.
"I'm pleased that Tom Cox has agreed to lead MyHealthDIRECT," said Mason. "Tom's deep healthcare provider experience, high-level industry relationships and leadership qualities will help drive MyHealthDIRECT to a new level. I'm delighted that the company has grown at the pace and level where it can attract an executive of Tom's caliber."
"The healthcare industry faces an unprecedented need to cut costs while improving productivity and care quality," said David Jones, Chairman and Managing Director of Chrysalis Ventures. "Thanks to Jay's leadership thus far, MyHealthDIRECT is seeing explosive growth in transaction volume and customer demand. Tom's leadership experience in scaling information and care coordination services to big healthcare institutions will be a wonderful addition to the company."
In recognition of the company's proven ability to reduce patient readmissions by scheduling follow-up appointments more effectively, MyHealthDIRECT was recently awarded an innovation award by the Department of Health and Human Services' Office for the National Coordinator of Health IT.
