BOULDER, Colo., June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer has unofficially arrived, and backpacks are "out," beach totes "in," and whoever can spend the most time outdoors wins. Or do they? According to the National Cancer Institute, the rate of new melanoma cases has tripled among U.S. adults since the 1970s. Champions for Smart Sun Practices
MyChelle is again partnering with the Environmental Working Group (EWG) to promote the non-profit's annual Sun Safety Campaign that provides consumer education on best practices against excessive sun exposure and resources for picking sunscreens. To help consumers make an informed choice, the EWG recently published its 10th annual Sunscreen Guide, including reviews of 750+ beach and sport sunscreens.
As part of its 2016 findings, the EWG reports almost 75% of sunscreens tested offer inferior protection and/or contain potentially toxic ingredients including oxybenzone (a known hormone disruptor) or retinyl palmitate (a form of vitamin A that may harm skin when added to sunscreen).
