MWC Envelope Tracking Demonstration Shows Industry Leading ET Performance in Fujitsu Multimode 2G/3G/4G Transceiver Reference Design using Quantance ET Power Supply
Fujitsu's live demo to showcase industry's highest power amplifier efficiency and increased linear peak power for signals up to 20MHz, while meeting 3GPP noise requirements
SAN MATEO, Calif., Feb. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantance Inc., manufacturer of ultra-fast, 4G/LTE envelope tracking (ET) power supplies, today announced its Q845 qBoostTM ET Power Supply will be demonstrated live at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 25-28, as an integrated solution within Fujitsu's MB86L11 2G/3G/4G Transceiver Reference Design Platform, the newest shipping transceiver product from Fujitsu Semiconductor Wireless Products, Inc. This demonstration shows dramatic system level improvements in RF power amplifier (PA) efficiency and peak linear PA power, outperforming Average Power Tracking (APT) solutions. The fully integrated solution can be seen by appointment with Fujitsu in their meeting room 2D-55, located in hall 2. Contact Michael Lampe for appointment ([email protected]).

The demonstration will feature the Quantance Q845 ET Power Supply and the Fujitsu MB86L11 multimode transceiver, the only production-ready ET solutions available today that support 20MHz LTE operation. The solution operates efficiently across all frequency bands, meets all 3GPP system noise requirements and offers efficient instantaneous boosting. The Q845's tiny application footprint and standard MIPI interface make it simple to integrate into smartphones, tablets, mobile hot spots and other mobile high-speed data devices, where its efficiency and power benefits enable more robust 4G/LTE operation, including increased battery life, faster data speeds and extended data coverage.
Fujitsu's advanced multimode transceiver IP, including architectures, circuits and algorithms for ET, operates with Quantance's ET Power Supply to eliminate the need for complicated digital pre-distortion (DPD) software in the mobile baseband or transceiver. When paired with the hardware and software algorithms in Fujitsu's transceiver, the Q845 does not require DPD, although it can support it.
Fujitsu continues to deliver and ship an industry leading RFIC transceiver family of product including 2G/3G/LTE, 2G/3G and LTE only solutions, and is now working to deliver a single chip IC supporting LTE-Advanced later this year. "The Fujitsu transceiver family of 2G/3G/LTE Multimode ICs, LTE only ICs and 2G/3G ICs offers low power consumption, a small footprint and a highly flexible API to bring down the total cost and integration effort," said Vivek Bhan, executive vice president at Fujitsu Semiconductor Wireless Products, Inc. "Advanced features like envelope tracking and the associated current drain benefits are realized quickly and seamlessly through our comprehensive programming model and transceiver architecture, allowing our customers to produce advanced handsets including ET this year."
"This ET product demonstration shows that our industry-leading performance and ability to meet all 3GPP noise requirements can be maintained in a compact smartphone form factor, using aggressive design rules, mass market components, the standard MIPI interface and Fujitsu's commercial transceiver to drive the ET system," said Vikas Vinayak, Quantance CEO. "We think this clearly confirms ET is ready for mass-market adoption, and that both Fujitsu and Quantance are in a leadership role, poised for a quick roll out of qBoost ET solutions in smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices."
Fujitsu Semiconductor Wireless Products, Inc. has been shipping a multimode 2G/3G/4G transceiver (MB86L10) since April 2010. The company now has a second commercially shipping 2G/3G/4G transceiver (MB86L11) in production, which has been optimized with Fujitsu IP and proven to deliver ET solutions to market. The MB86L11 has been shipping in commercial quantities since September 2012. This commercially proven, single-chip multiband, multimode transceiver, supports all modes including LTE (FDD & TDD), HSPA+, DC-HSPA, WCDMA, GSM, EDGE, CDMA and TD-SCDMA, and covers all bands from 700MHz to 2.7GHz, making it a truly global product. Quantance's patented qBoost ET technology is a unique boosting ET architecture that enables PA efficiency to reach theoretical limits, and at the same time, dramatically increases PA transmit power. This architecture delivers the response time equivalent of a 400MHz switcher for ET systems – making the Q845 more than 100 times faster than any other mobile ET power supply solution available today. This ultra-fast performance, along with a standards-based interface and tiny application footprint, sets the industry standard for performance, size and integration simplicity.
