Muzik Teams Up With Microsoft to Launch First Open SDK for Smart Headphones
New SDK Enables Developers to Build Apps Directly for Muzik Headphones
LOS ANGELES, April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Muzik™, creators of the first connected headphones, today announced a new initiative with Microsoft to release the first open source, cross-platform Muzik Software Developer Kit (SDK). The SDK will fully integrate with Muzik's suite of audio products – beginning with the launch of the Muzik Convertible in spring/summer 2016. The added capabilities further Muzik's mission of connecting people, cultures and experiences.
The Muzik SDK, which will be available on Windows 10, Android and iOS, invites developers from around the world to join in the collaborative process of building innovative applications for its smart headphones and future products.
"We are excited to be working alongside Microsoft, and our new initiative represents the next phase of Muzik's software development," said Jason Hardi, Founder and CEO of Muzik. "With Microsoft, we are opening the doors for a wide range of connected experiences and developers on any platform now have the tools to enhance their app or game with Muzik headphones."
Muzik and Microsoft aim to create integrated user experiences between applications, games and hardware, which has not previously existed in the headphone category. The Garage at Microsoft has already built the first app with Muzik's SDK, which enables users to communicate and share music to Slack from Muzik's headphones.
"Headphones have seen minimal innovation over the past several years and we're looking forward to working with the Muzik team who understands the importance of fusing hardware and software," said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft's Developer eXperience & Evangelism (DX) group. "An open SDK is a playground for developers and we're excited to see what will be created to enhance experiences through Muzik."
Since its founding in 2012, Muzik has raised more than $18 million in funding and has aligned with the world's leading companies and individuals across sports, entertainment and technology. Muzik's investors include leading social networking platform Twitter, basketball all-star elite, Chris Paul and Super Bowl Champion Demaryius Thomas, among others.
