NEW YORK, Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of America announced today that it is a lead sponsor of the documentary film "In Money We Trust?," which premieres on public television stations across the U.S. beginning this month.
Based on the best-selling book "Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the Global Economy – and What We Can Do About It" by Steve Forbes, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Media, and Elizabeth Ames, the film addresses the question "What is money?" and highlights how, a decade after the 2008 financial crisis, the loss of trust in money has led to greater income inequality and social turmoil.
"Mutual of America is proud to be a lead sponsor of 'In Money We Trust?,'" said John R. Greed, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "In light of the current volatility in the financial markets and its potential impact on Americans' savings accounts, this documentary film is timely and provides a historical perspective of just how important trust in money is to a prosperous society. As a supporter of public television, including through our longstanding commitment to the Public Broadcasting Service, Mutual of America recognizes the importance of expanding the reach of meaningful educational programs such as 'In Money We Trust?'"
Last month, Mutual of America hosted an event at its headquarters in New York City, during which Forbes introduced the film, which was directed by award-winning director Paul Sanderson and coproduced by Maryland Public Television, Our Town Films and BOLDE Communications.
"We are so grateful to Mutual of America for being the lead sponsor of this timely and important program," said Forbes, who is interviewed in the film along with former Federal Reserve chairmen Alan Greenspan and Paul Volker, among others. "In a fascinating narrative, this show demonstrates that when money is trustworthy, we flourish, and people invest in the future with confidence. When it isn't, we stagnate, and destructive social tensions erupt."
The film will air in New York City markets on WNET13 on January 26 at 1:00 p.m. and on WLIW World beginning January 28 at 7:00 p.m., and other major markets nationwide beginning next week. Additional information, including a link to watch the film and a full viewing schedule by market, is available at inmoneywetrust.org.
