NEW YORK, Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of America announced the recipients of its 2017 Community Partnership Award, which annually honors the outstanding contributions that nonprofit organizations, in partnership with public, private and other social sector organizations, make to society.
"All of the 2017 honorees are leaders in society, creating innovative and effective solutions to help those in need," said John R. Greed, President and CEO, Mutual of America. "Through the Community Partnership Award, Mutual of America is proud to recognize, support and help extend the reach of these vital partnerships."
This year's recipient of the Governor Hugh L. Carey Award, presented to the national award-winning program, is Evans High School • A Community Partnership School. Children's Home Society of Florida forged a partnership with the University of Central Florida, Orange County Public Schools and Orange Blossom Family Health to create this pathway to success for underserved students in one of Orlando's poorest neighborhoods. By providing on-site access to medical and social services, and after-school enrichment and mentoring programs, they are giving hope to a disadvantaged community and creating opportunities for students and their families to reach beyond the grip of poverty.
Each recipient is delivering solutions to critical challenges facing our country, including providing services to absentee fathers in underserved areas, individuals with Autism, and those caught in the grip of the national opioid health care crisis, as well as addressing food insecurity and homelessness, and job education and training.
