Music Empowers Foundation Announces Winner Of Its "Music Teachers Matter" Video Contest
NEW YORK, May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After many creative entries and days of deliberation by the judges, The Music Empowers Foundation has announced the winner of its "Music Teachers Matter" video contest. The event was conducted in March 2013 in honor of Music in Our Schools Month. Participants were required to submit short videos explaining why their school's music program and its teachers are important and special to them.
The winning video stood out among all the great entries and was submitted by representatives of the Giaudrone Middle School in Tacoma, Washington. The school will receive a $2,500 grant from Music Empowers Foundation to support and build their band, orchestra, and drum line programs. According to Stephanie Sheppard, band director and music educator at Giaudrone Middle School, the Music Empowers' funds will be used to purchase instruments including a half size cello, clarinets, flutes, and quad drums.
"Over 80% of the students at Giaudrone Middle School are unable to afford their own instruments," explained Andy Davis, founder of Music Empowers Foundation. "Because of this, we are especially pleased to provide this support and knowing that the funds will provide many children with the opportunity to play music."
