Musca Law Adds BAC Calculator to Website
Florida DUI Lawyer hopes tool helps website visitors understand possible effects of alcohol consumption on the body.
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Musca Law has recently added a blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator to its website. The tool was included in an effort to help people understand the physical effects of consuming alcohol before driving a vehicle, an act which may result in a criminal charge of driving under the influence (DUI).
The calculator is based on the mathematical formula for calculating BAC as defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Factors affecting BAC include gender, weight, the amount of alcohol consumed and the period of time over which the alcohol is consumed.
The website's calculator considers a drink to be .54 ounces of alcohol. This is the equivalent of one glass of wine, a 12-ounce beer or one shot of distilled spirits.
"As a team of Florida DUI lawyers, this is our way of giving people a general idea of how long alcohol can remain in the system and how it affects the body," said John Musca, Esquire, founder of Musca Law. "Of course, consuming alcohol affects each individual differently, depending on how much food they have eaten and how often they drink alcohol."
The calculator's user chooses their closest weight in 10-pound increments. The person then selects the number of drinks over how many hours, followed by the appropriate gender. Once the compute button is clicked, the approximate BAC is calculated.
"We added the calculator for awareness," said Musca. "Most people have no idea how much alcohol it will take them to become drunk. Studies show that impairment from alcohol starts with the first drink. As a rule of thumb, if someone feels drunk, they are well beyond the legal limit of .08."
The calculator can be found on the Florida DUI attorney website, www.muscalaw.com.
