Murray To Leap To Second Spot In Tennis Rich List
Wimbledon Champ's Net Worth Estimated To Hit US$160 Million By 2018
LONDON, July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tennis champion Andy Murray is predicted to become the world's second wealthiest tennis player by 2018, from his current ranking at seventh, following his historic inaugural win at Wimbledon last week.
Wealth-X, the ultra high net worth (UHNW) intelligence firm, estimates that Murray will increase his future earnings by nearly four-fold to US$160 million through prize money and endorsements, propelling him into second spot after Maria Sharapova and ahead of Novak Djokovic.
Professional tennis players have historically retired around the age of 30. Top UHNW players such as Roger Federer (aged 36), Serena Williams (35) and her sister Venus (38) are likely to retire by 2018. The future of Spanish player Rafael Nadal is uncertain as he continues to be blighted by injuries, giving a poor showing at this year's Wimbledon.
Murray's current net worth is US$42 million, with US$36 million from prize money and sponsorships. He has US$6 million in alternative assets such as Cromlix House Hotel in Scotland.

"If he keeps on his winning trajectory, we estimate the value of Brand Murray to rise significantly," Wealth-X CEO Mykolas D. Rambus said. "As older players retire, Murray has a strong chance of rising up our rank of the world's wealthiest tennis players."
