Attendees will hear from national experts, such as former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.); L. Hunter Lovins, president and founder of Natural Capitalism; and Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Harvard University political scientist Robert Putnam will discuss steps governments can take to form successful relationships between immigrants and their new communities.
Conference participants will have an opportunity to tour model city programs throughout Denver and its neighboring communities. Mobile workshops include the Scientific Cultural Facilities District, the U.S. 36 Multi-Modal Transportation Project and Corridor Coalition Building and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
In addition to exploring the Denver region's most successful municipal programs, conference participants will have an opportunity to give back to the local community. In partnership with Gifts In Kind International, a non-profit organization, NLC collected donations from businesses throughout the city, which attendees will sort throughout the week and distribute to various Denver charities on Saturday, December 4.
