Multiple Breast Cancer Research Foundations Donated to by DMCU and its Members

DETROIT, Nov. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With Breast Cancer Awareness Month coming to an end and the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, the fourth quarter of the year always brings out the most charitable and caring sides of humanity. We know that credit unions exist for a simple reason—to enrich and improve the lives of their members. The industry lives by this and it's visible not only by their dedication to their membership but also their contribution to society through charitable and community programs.

Throughout the year, Diversified Members Credit Union (DMCU) selects local foundations to support such as Detroit Dog Rescue and Summer Jam Day Camp that directly impact our communities on the ground level, all the way to high-profile national foundations like Susan G. Komen and the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Each month DMCU collects monetary donations for the featured charity from employees and members through collection boxes, special paid-dress down days and popcorn days.

"When we all come together, it's really amazing what we can accomplish," says Kathie Trembath, CEO of DMCU. "There's no such thing as a contribution too small and we're very proud of the efforts by our employees and members each and every month. October was our largest donation this year and we're proud that the money will go towards breast cancer awareness and research," says Trembath.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, DMCU contributed to both the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research and Susan G. Komen to the tune of a combined $1,668. DMCU employees raised funds this month by conducting a bake sale, where employees would bake or purchase baked goods which then were in turn sold with all proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Research.

"Our donations usually don't reach this high of an amount and it just goes to show you how much the community cares about breast cancer awareness," Trembath says.  

To make a contribution, look for the lobby donation bin the next time you visit your DMCU branch office. The credit union's charity for November is Wigs for Kids, whose mission is to improve the self-esteem and confidence of children affected by diseases that result in hair loss.
