MultiCare Urgent Care Providers Vote "Yes" To Form Union

SEATTLE, April 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week providers at MultiCare Legacy Urgent Care Centers voted by an overwhelming margin to join UAPD. By a 43-7 vote, Legacy providers sent a resounding message that they want collective bargaining rights and a voice in providing care to patients.

Legacy Urgent Care doctor Jocelyn Devita, MD, was pleased with the results:

"As someone who has been part of the traditional urgent cares since 1998, I felt that physicians needed a voice," said Devita. "With the growth and rapid change happening in the healthcare sector we are not being heard by the MultiCare administration on how to care for patients."

Some of the concerns detailed by Legacy Urgent Care providers included plans by MultiCare to change closing hours, reduce RN support staff, limit available treatment procedures, and other issues.

UAPD will now begin the process of better understanding the specific priorities of Legacy providers to prepare for contract negotiations. In the next week, Legacy providers will be extensively surveyed regarding their concerns on compensation, working hours, benefits, and other issues.

UAPD is excited to begin preparing to negotiate a contract for Legacy providers. With the addition of Legacy providers, UAPD now represents over 100 Doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners working for MultiCare Health Systems. UAPD will continue working to unionize providers at MultiCare and other institutions.
