DAYTON, Ohio, April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the big data analytics and marketing applications company, announced that OSF HealthCare, a multi-state care provider, is completing initial deployment of a Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance to enable agile analytics with fast parallel processing, scalability to process massive volumes of data, and rich in-database analytic capabilities. The deployment also includes the Teradata OLAP Connector & BI Accelerator suite which provides self-service OLAP analytics.
OSF HealthCare worked with a Teradata Professional Services (PS) team to establish a self-service data lab ("sandbox") inside the data warehouse -- providing a workspace where users can explore and analyze new data and test theories, while looking at ways to integrate relevant big data into analytics processes. The Data Lab enables exploration by combining new data with existing data so it's easier to identify and leverage new marketing trends, financial insight and clinical intelligence while reacting quickly to business needs.
"As our organization grows, we are housing and managing more data. The Teradata solution has the scalability and performance we need as volume increases and information becomes more complex," said Roopa Foulger, Executive Director, Data Delivery, OSF HealthCare. "In addition, we needed a more powerful platform to manage our increasing mix of structured and unstructured data."
OSF HealthCare needed to move beyond their SQL Server database environment, and Teradata PS consulting guided the organization's migration to a new DBMS platform, allowing SQL Server users to easily move to the Teradata platform. This move involved four terabytes of data.
Foulger added that the new Teradata-based environment is expected to provide actionable insights across three major analytic processes: marketing and patient-customer engagement, financial reporting, and clinical analysis. Over the next two years, Foulger expects to see big data forms and types introduced to the data warehousing environment, including machine data for more advanced analysis.
"Teradata is proud to be working with OSF HealthCare, a world-class organization that is moving into the big data analytics space for all the right reasons," said Ted Senemar, Teradata Industry Vice President. "OSF sees the importance of integrating big data into its analytics processes. Moreover, OSF is part of the Health Care Transformation Task Force, an elite group of health systems, health insurers, purchasers, employers and patients who are working together to lead sweeping transformation of national health care over the next five years."
Improving clinical treatment with deep accountability is a continuous process at OSF, a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization. The new data analytics environment will provide useful intelligence on the value of care as the provider evolves aggressively away from fee-for-service models and toward fee-for-value models of care.
"OSF measures success not by the number of visits logged or beds filled, but by patient outcomes, total health and patient perception of OSF as the organization continues to strive to provide the right care for the right patient at the right time," said Foulger.
